REVIEW

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Me!

Me who?

Minions!!!

So I recently watched the newly released movie – Minions: The Rise of Gru and I just had to write about it!

Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) is an Animation, Adventure, Comedy, and Family movie. This movie relates the story of a 12-year-old boy, Gru, and his childhood dream to become a… you guessed right… a super-villain! Gru with his little mischief and naughtiness aspires to become a member of The Vicious 6; being the World’s best Super-villain Team, including Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, Nun Chuck, Svengeance, Stronghold, and Wild Knuckles.

Wild Knuckles is Gru’s favourite villain. But then, what transpires when he is kicked out of team?

The little yellow creatures, Minions have a major role to play in Gru’s life. In their sole interest of looking for a Master/Boss, they come in massive numbers to little Gru’s house to be of service to him.

Kevin, Stuart, and Bob are three of the most familiar minions that represent the entire minions’ populace.

Kevin, the leader, is the sensible and mature one, and very loyal to duty. Stuart is the hopelessly cheesy and romantic one while Bob, being the cute mismatched blue brown-eyed is the baby of the group that would make you fall for his baby charm.

Otta is a new minion character who plays a major role in helping Gru achieve his dream. He is the playful type who loves to daydream at any given time, with his round and chubby stature.

He is one of the highlights of the movie as he trades a precious stone with a pet stone you can’t help but laugh at his foolishness.

If you’ve watched Minions, and Despicable me you’ll be familiar with some characters such as the Minions, Dr Nefario, and wingman.

Gru with Kevin and Stuart

I like this movie for several reasons. For one, the minions are truly comic creatures, very funny, goofy, and silly, with their gibberish language, hence they are my favourite characters. Their persistent nature and optimistic approach to varying situations are good learning for everyone. They work and move in groups, displaying team spirit and togetherness.

Moreover, they show their loyalty and service to their Mini-boss, Gru, even when things get a little ugly.

I’m not a fan of pranksters/troublemakers but the drive, passion, and strong will possessed by little Gru, is something I admire. Even when his classmates laughed at him for wanting to be a Supervillain, nothing changed his mind, he never gave up his dreams to please anyone. Anything is possible to a willing mind.

I also like the nice blend of Adventure with Comedy, some action with a dash of humour is a perfect blend, and the switching between scenes of the minions and the supervillains is quite balanced.

There are two sides to a coin, and so there are some things I didn’t particularly enjoy in the movie. For instance, the Villains weren’t all that scary and manipulative. I mean, even when they transformed with some enchanted green stone, it wasn’t all that powerful and great. It was lame, crappy, and didn’t give off these Cool Bad Supervillain vibes.

Coming from a religious approach, A nun being a super-villain and transforming into a serpent didn’t sit well with me either. I just didn’t flow with it and I think it’s unnecessary. That’s just my opinion.

However, Minions: The Rise of Gru is a great watch, I found it simply entertaining, and hilarious and would recommend it to both children and adults.

Very good review. I’ve also noticed that recently some movies always have some scenes that seem to mock Christianity. I’m still going to watch this though😂😂
