Introduction

Violent Night 2022 is a Christmas action comedy film directed by Tommy Wirkola. Its scripts are written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. Violent Night stars David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, Leah Brady, and Beverly D’Angelo.

Violent Night runs for nearly two hours and it uses English its primary language.

Synopsis

David Harbour’s Violent Night (2022) tells the story of a band of mercenaries who attacks an affluent family estate on Christmas Eve and kidnaps everyone inside. The kidnappers and almost everyone in the estate aren’t expecting a surprise combatant: Santa, the real Santa – Mr. Claus – who arrives on the scene and is ready to save the day and next (Christmas).

Violent Night (2022) Film Review

Wow, this Christmas movie was not what I expected; it blew my mind. To be honest, I didn’t anticipate this movie to be as enjoyable as it was. Except for Home Alone, I don’t recall ever seeing a violent Christmas film(that is if you classify home alone as “violent”).

Violent Night is from the producers of Bullet Train so you can imagine how good it is. Letme give you my opinions on the film without keeping you waiting too long.

Character/Acting: I like how certain actors and actresses performed, and what their characters represented. Despite my love for the performers, only two characters stood out for me: David Harbour and Leah Brady.

Leah Brady as Trody

As noted in the synopsis, David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things , plays Santa in Violent Night. He goes by several aliases here, including former Viking warrior, renowned Christmas gift-giver, and so on.

He performed an excellent job here, displaying a wide range of emotions, particularly while interacting with Leah Brady. His physical presence is strong, as seen by his facial expressions, body movements, and ability to successfully depict his character’s emotions and actions.

David creates a convincing persona. Who would have guessed that Santa, who is so lovely and happy, rewarding children for being nice to their parents all year, could also be so brutal, swinging the skull-crusher about like it’s a toy?

The band of mercenaries

Leah Brady’s performance also astounded me. She plays the role of Trudy Lightstone, Jason and Linda’s daughter. She is a nice child with a lot of beliefs. She commanded the stage and I was blown away.

Her facial expressions and portrayal of her character were perfect. Her emotions and body language were perfectly in tune.

She plays the renowned Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone in this film. I think you’ll like her performance as much as I did.

Cinematography: The cinematography isn’t great, but it’s not horrible either. It is just there. The camera movements, lighting, and backdrop are all typical of a Christmas film.

Soundtracks: I like how they were utilized. The tunes and sounds are satisfactory. As predicted, several well-known Christmas songs were incorporated, which contributed to the film’s festive atmosphere. People may forget that this is a Christmas movie because of the violence and thrill, but the songs and costumes will help bring you back to reality.

Themes: There are several themes portrayed in this film. They include:

The value of family and togtherness: The narrative of the film is around a family gathering for Christmas and overcoming their differences to enhance their ties.

Trudy’s Parents

Overcoming adversity: The film highlights the characters’ problems and trials. These difficulties concern Trudy’s parent’s connection with the family and how they fight to solve them to have a pleasant and rewarding holiday season.

The film explores the concept of forgiveness, as the characters learn to let go of old grievances and embrace a spirit of understanding and compassion for one another.

The importance of tradition: The film emphasizes the necessity of preserving traditional holiday practices, as well as the memories and joy they provide to our lives.

The true meaning of Christmas: The film delves into the deeper meaning of the holiday season, focusing on how it is about love, compassion, and gathering with loved ones.

Did you know?

According to Screenrant – When questioned if David was always the first-choice protagonist, the Director said, “It was! It’s a boring response that seems like I’m making it up, but it was one of those occasions where myself, producers, and the studio were [looking] through names and what agents suggested early on. “Oh, wait, what about David Harbour?” someone remarked. It was one of those times when we looked at each other and said, “Oh my God, he’s perfectly wonderful.“

David Habour as Santa Claus

Finally, this is an excellent film. It is a crazy Christmas action movie with all these extreme stuff, but still, have you filled with the Christmas spirit.

It is a lot of fun. As you are aware, I am a lover of action films, so a Christmas film with action and thrills… I love it, albeit I was eating while watching it and there was a bit where Santa puked on a lady’s head, and it was simply mistimed. I had to take a break from the movie because I just had to finish my food first.

I recommend this film to any action, comedy lover above the age of 16 because of certain language used, and violence.

You can watch Violent Night in cinemas.
