INTRODUCTION

Plane 2023 is an American action thriller film directed by Jean-François Richet. The screenplay is done by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis.

On January 13, Plane was released. It stars Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Yoson An, and Tony Goldwyn.

The plot centers on a pilot caught in a war zone after being forced to land his commercial aircraft during a terrible storm.

The film runs for 1 hour and 47 minutes. English and Tagalog were the languages spoken.

SYNOPSIS

In the white-knuckle action movie PLANE, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler) saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island — only to find that surviving the dock was just the beginning.

When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), an accused murderer the FBI was transporting. To rescue the passengers, Torrance will need Gaspare’s use and will learn there’s more to Gaspare than meets the eye – LIONSGATE.

PLANE (2023) FILM REVIEW

Plane seems like a true story, but it is not. Instead, it is a very predictable action thriller, though one which you’d enjoy. I say this because, from the get-go, Plane felt like something I’ve seen before. The crew made parts out of certain movies without a single original element.

However, it is still impressive by making the most of its actors and its tension-rich premise.

Plane is an excellent emotional movie that pulls and attaches us (the audience) to itself. We get attached to their story because we see what happens to the character and are automatically compelled to feel a particular way.

This film’s characters are the soul as they made Plane fly (Pardon the Pun) with their superb performances.

Character/Acting: Gerard Butler plays the role of Brodie Torrance, a courageous and daring commercial pilot. Butler gives a terrific lead performance.

He is charming and confident with the ability to intentionally display emotions when he is in shock or confused.

Louis Gaspare, a former GCP traveler with the French Foreign Legion who is being deported to Toronto, Canada, on allegations of manslaughter, is portrayed by Mike Colter.

Mike Colter excels with a purposefully reserved performance that makes him difficult to read and heightens the tension around him. I remember being quite anxious as he and Brodie entered the bush since his body did not indicate what the criminal might do.

I also found his character a bit funny. You’ll find out towards the end of the film.

I wish they had done more with the passengers to give the movie additional flavor or unexpected twists.

Giving the passengers some active part may have increased the intensity and raised the action.

Cinematography: The Cinematography was excellent and impressive. The camera movements too.

The camera is constantly mobile and, most importantly, always understandable, with a standout one take early on that kicks things off beautifully.

The action sequences in the movie were well-choreographed and executed on the screen, which added a lot of enjoyment to the film.

Jean-François Richet’s direction is so good; he wisely paces the film so that the characters have time to breathe and take in what’s happening between bursts of action. He allows his actors time with lengthy shots to display the emotion their characters ought to feel.

The music by Marco Beltrami and Marcus Trumpp is so overly dramatic, which is precisely why it works well for the movie to convey the required emotion and raise tension.

DID YOU KNOW?

Colter will play Louis Gaspare once more in the Ship sequel, which was confirmed in February 2023.

Alongside MadRiver Pictures, Di Bonaventura Pictures, and G-BASE Productions, Jean-François Richet is an executive producer. Although he won’t play the lead role, Gerard Butler might appear in a cameo. – Wikipedia

CONCLUSION

Plane 2023, shot in Puerto Rico, is filled with thrills and emotion. It is not a film to be taken too seriously, as it is primarily meant for entertainment. With the kind of performances put in by the cast, I regard this film highly and recommend you watch it.

Plane is rated R for violence and language; it’s not for kids below 17 without a guardian supervisor.

You can watch Plane 2023 on Netflix.
