ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA 2023 FILM REVIEW.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 2023 is the 31st film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
It begins with Paul Rudd cheerfully walking down an aisle, greeting friends, and narrating simultaneously. You know how when you see a movie starts a certain way, you know it will be good? That’s how I felt when I started watching it, but the film only impressed me slightly and fell short of my expectations.
Don’t get me wrong, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is primarily solid and a reasonably entertaining movie. But relative to MCU standards, it’s underwhelming. The same pressure was put on Thor: Love and Thunder, which cracked under the pressure of expectation. Unfortunately, Quantummania suffers the same fate.
As I always do, let me explain the method for my madness.
Character/Acting: Quantumania features numerous cast, and they all play their part.
Thinking back to recall who impressed me the most, I’d choose Jonathan Mayors.
Jonathan Majors plays the role of Kang the Conqueror. Jonathan stars as the Villain. He is a time-traveler trapped in the Quantum Realm and requires Pym Particles to launch his ship and a device that allows him to travel anywhere at any time.
He is intimidating, powerful, and compelling. Jonathan does most of the heavy lifting in this movie. He crafts this role skillfully, articulates movements and adds elements to his speech to make it more enjoyable.
Jonathan truly has charisma on screen, and I found his dialogues and conversations compelling.
Michael Douglas stars as Hank Pym. I enjoyed his role in Basic Instincts (1992), and I still wanted his role in this film. He plays the role of a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and physicist who became the original Ant-Man after creating the suit.
Even with his small role, he still did a good job. He had good chemistry with Michelle Pffiefer, who features as his wife, and with Paul Rudd.
Even though his performance in the last two Ant-man films was better, Paul Rudd delivers as always in his role as Ant-Man.
Cinematography: It’s not easy to talk about the cinematography of this film because of the level of CGI used.
Almost the entire film takes place inside a CGI story, so there was no need for any movie sets or locations. It was excessive, and this obstructed me while watching. The special effects were okay. It was not bad, but it could have been better.
The action scenes looked choreographed and could have been better done. There were only a few fight scenes I enjoyed.
DID YOU KNOW?
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), The Marvels (2023), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were all shot at the same time, with Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney, Australia, The Marvels in Jersey City, New Jersey, Los Angeles, and Buckinghamshire, England, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in Atlanta, Georgia, Turkey, and London, England – IMDB
CONCLUSION.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a fun movie to watch. It started well but lost itself at some point. I was enjoying it during that time but wasn’t fully engaged. I even struggled to keep looking at the screen.
The story was clichéd and predictable. You could guess what was coming from a mile away. I wish Marvel did better with this film.
Would I recommend it? Yeah, I would. The film is alright. It just does reach the ceiling set for it. It is suitable for a one-time watch.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is rated PG-13 for violence/action, and language.
