INTRODUCTION.
So, John Wick 4 will be released in Cinemas on the 24th of March, 2023, and that’s when I’ll see it. But for now, let me tell you to want to expect and my thoughts on what might happen in this chapter.
This is a preview of John Wick Chapter 4. John Wick Chapter 4 is the fourth movie of the John Wick Franchise.
In preparation for John wick 4, I had to re-watch 1, 2, and 3, and I was never bored for even a second.
Let me summarize the previous movies then I’ll tell you what I think chapter 4 will be about and my reasons.
The previous John Wick franchises, especially chapter 1, are all action thrillers about a man named Mr John Wick(Keanu Reeves) who, during the mourning period of his wife Helen (Bridget Moynahan), who just passed away, was attacked by the son Losef Tarasov(Alfie Allen) of a Russian mob Viggo Tarasov(Michael Nyqvist) who killed John’s dog and stole his car.
Because of the love for his wife, Helen, John completes an impossible task to get out of the game. So now, he no longer works under the High Table, but after his puppy is killed, he is forced to come out of retirement back to the life which he had forsaken.
Wick is a gun expert; he knows the gunfight’s mysteries, making it difficult to conquer him. John kills many guards who stand in his way Just to get to Losef. Losef tries to prove stubborn but is quickly taken down by the merciless Wick.
Viggo Tarasov, Losef’s dad, send mercenaries to take down John, but they all fail. Viggo Tarasov even met one of John’s friends Marcus (Willem Dafoe) and told him to kill John for a considerable sum. Rather than Kill John, Marcus, an expert snipper helps John. This singular act pisses Viggo off, and Viggo tracks him down to his house and kills him.
Viggo calls John to tell him what he has done, and now, John is pissed.
Viggo against John? Guess who would come out victorious. You guessed right; it was John. John kills him on the street in the rain.
After taking care of business, John goes home to continue his mourning.
In Chapter 2, John is faced with a new challenge. After avenging his dog and retrieving his car, John decides to withdraw again from the violence, but it seems like John doesn’t know how to retire as troubles always find him.
In this chapter, John has two significant enemies – Abram Tarasov (Peter Stormare) and Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio). Abram is Viggo’s brother who seeks to avenge Viggo’s death and his nephew’s. D’Antonio is a pal of John. He is also under the High Table. He helped John Wick on the night of his impossible task. “If not for what I did for you on the night of your impossible task, you wouldn’t be here today”, he tells John as he persuades him to do his (D’Antonio’s) bidding. D’Antonio wanted John to kill Gianna D’Antonio (Claudia Gerini), D’Antonio’s sister, who had a place at the high Table.
Greedy Santino would do anything to get a spot at the high Table and even kill his sister, so he sends John. When he approaches John, without even hearing what the offer is, John declines, and this pisses off Santino, who then decides that the best way to go around this is to blow up John’s house.
The blast from the explosion throws John out of his house. John is on the ground outside his home. The camera focuses on John and the fire burning the picture of him kissing his wife’s cheek. I knew Santino had gotten into a big mess for this foolish act.
John is pissed, and Santino is pissed. So, what happens next?
John heads to the Continental, a hotel run by Winston (Ian McShane), and reports the matter. Winston advises John to take up the task, and John obeys.
John kits up by acquiring guns of different kinds and occations, sewing a bulletproof suit for ‘a social event’ and studying the map of the Santino estate where Gianna is hosting a party. He mounts guns at several points in the estate for his escape.
He kills Gianna and makes his way for the exit, but he’s faced with hundreds of guards who will stop at nothing until John dies. John fought for his life and managed to escape.
On hearing the news that his sister was dead, Santino decided to turn on John for killing his sister. Santino comes to the Continental to seek refuge. John kills Santino in the Continental, a forbidden place to conduct ‘business. He must now face the repercussion.
In chapter 3 – Parabellum, John must pay for his crime as he broke one of the essential rules, ‘no business in the Continental’.
John is declared “excommunicado” by the High Table—all his rights and privileges are stripped away, and a bounty of 14 million dollars is put on his head. Since Winston is his friend, Winston gives him 1 hour to escape. After the ‘time of grace’ expiration, John encounters opposition from everywhere, about the whole of New York wanting to get their hand on easy 14 million dollars.
The High Table sends the Adjudicator, Asia Kate Dillon, to dish out punishment to all those who helped Wick; she dethrones Winston from the Continental for giving Wick 1 hour to escape rather than kill John on the spot. She also punished everyone who helped John in one way or another.
It is almost impossible to fight the whole of New York, so John has to seek redemption. He travelled to Morocco to see the leader of the high Table. He had to walk through the desert; he almost even died. He knew neither where the leader was and what he looked like.
Fortunately for him, he was found by a passerby in the desert and taken to the leader. He begs for redemption and was given another chance, but he must do something to prove his loyalty. He had cut off his ring finger and killed Winston, his friend who was back in New York.
He cuts off his finger and heads back to New York to accomplish his second task, but he soon changes his mind and decides not to kill his friend.
When Winston is approached by the Adjudicator of the High Table about what should be done to John Wick, Winston shoots John multiple times from the top of the continental tower. John falls from the top and most likely breaks a bone or two. Recall that John and Charon helps Winston fight against the high Table while Winston stayed in a vault in the Continental, sipping wine and listening to music.
Fortunately for him, he did not die. He was helped by the “The Bowery King” (Laurence Fishburne), who the Adjudicator also punished for giving Wick seven bullets after he was declared excommunicado. The Bowery king was given seven cuts as punishment, but he was also lucky to stay alive.
WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM JOHN WICK 4?
Watching 1, 2, and 3, we saw increased brutality, intensity, horror, and much more as the franchise went by. So, from 4, I expect more of everything in other chapters. John will go after the high Table, which will be a challenging task.
The High Table’s leader is very armed and protected, and no one knows precisely where he is, so John must find him.
The trailer shows that Donnie Yen features and this only screams one thing: ‘more action’. I expect John to forgive Winston as he’ll probably understand Winston’s reason for shooting him.
John and Winston will probably still work together to bring down the high Table, but what I need to know or I’m not sure of is if they will succeed.
Donnie Yen and Wick will get in combat because I don’t see a way where you’ll have these two action stars, and they wouldn’t get in a fight. This is one scene fans of John Wick would love to see. I would love to see this too.
If Charon (Lance Reddick), the concierge at the Continental Hotel in New York, gets involved in a fight as he did in John Wick 3, I feel he might get killed as this is not the role he used to, but he just did it in chapter 3 to help John protect Winston.
My thirst for this fight scene worsened after seeing Donnie Yen’s IP Man and some of his Kung Fu movies.
I am still unsure though it is very likely that John Wick will come out alive after this film or if this franchise will have continuity.
I’d be disappointed if this film was short of any of these.
These are just my thought. What do you think?
