INTRODUCTION.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a computer-animated adventure film based on a popular video game franchise. This movie was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel.
The movie has a lot of famous actors who lent their voices to the characters. Some actors are Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (King Bowser), and so on.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released on April 5, 2023 and runs for 1 hour, 32 minutes.
SYNOPSIS.
Mario prepares to face the all-powerful Bowser to thwart his intentions to rule the world with the aid of Princess Peach.
THE SUPER MARIO BROS FILM REVIEW.
After finally starting a plumbing company, the Super Mario brothers Mario and Luigi get their first job repairing a sink. They travel a long distance on foot as their van refuses to start. Not letting the van’s breakdown derail them or slow them down, they both decide to run to the house where they were given a job. These brothers with Italian mustaches are welcomed and warned not to make a mess. They ended up making a mess though they completed the task.
On the news, they see Brooklyn being rampaged by water and decide that this is their chance to make a name. When they get to the area of the havoc, they go underground and are sucked into a pipe. Mario finds himself in a mushroom kingdom ruled by a beautiful princess, Princess Peach, while his brother Luigi finds himself in the Dark Lands led by an evil monster – King Bowser.
King Bowser loves Princess Peach and wants to take over her kingdom. He gets an Intel that a little gentleman hangs out with his dearly beloved princess. This pisses him off, and he must take severe action. He imprisons Luigi to threaten Mario. Mario, desperate to save his brother, seeks the help of the princess. Mario joins the princess, who initially wanted to save her kingdom from King Bowser.
The princess doubting his capability gives Mario a game-like task where he has to overcome obstacles and get power-ups for certain superpowers. Mario tries from day to night without being able to complete the job. The princess seeing he has tried his best gives him the benefit of the doubt and carries him along. The mushroom kingdom is made up of very little mushroom soldiers who wouldn’t stand a chance against King Bowser or his armies, so they seek the help of King Cranky Kong.
From this point onwards, this comedy and adventure film hits top speed.
To begin with, this movie is primarily intended for children and fans of Nintendo and the Mario franchise. However, even if you are an adult who is not a fan, you may still find it enjoyable. This is because the movie is filled with so many nods to the fans that it will likely make you grin from ear to ear throughout the entire film.
I enjoyed the movie mainly due to the voice acting, particularly the performances by Chris Pratt and Jack Black, and the brilliance of the animation. The animation was also exceptional and visually stunning. As expected from Illumination, the studio behind Minions, they always deliver top-notch animations.
The movie seamlessly incorporated platforming elements from the original video games into the action scenes, which I appreciated and cherished because it resulted in some inspiring moments. I can draw similarities between this movie and the iconic films Cars and Mad Max: Fury Road, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Although enjoyable, this film leaves little time for some of the more critical components that fans may have hoped to see. For those like me who are unfamiliar with the Mario franchise, the movie may be challenging to follow due to the lack of explicit information. Despite a short and uninteresting plot, the film can still be enjoyable to watch.
I love the post-credit scenes so much, but it sets the stage for a sequel that is not needed. While there has been no official announcement about a Super Mario movie sequel, fans of the franchise can still enjoy the various Mario Easter eggs that have been hidden in popular websites like Google. For instance, if you search for “Super Mario Bros” on Google and click on the question mark block, a coin will appear, along with the classic Mario sound effect. It’s a fun way to pay homage to the classic game while browsing the internet.
The movie’s music, melodies, and songs were enjoyable. They were composed in a way that captivated my attention and immersed me in the story. There were instances when the music gave me the sensation of being in a video game because of the electronic beats and synthesized sounds. At other times, the music made me feel like I was watching an action movie with fast-paced beats and intense rhythms.
Additionally, the songs used in the movie were calming and soothing. They helped me relax and feel more connected to the characters and the story. Overall, the music and sound effects greatly enhanced my movie experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I loved the way the movie ended.

CONCLUSION.
The Super Mario Bros. movie is an adventure film that captures the spirit and essence of the Mario franchise, making it an enjoyable watch for fans of the game. The film’s animation is also impressive.
The movie has some mild violence and action, which is to be expected from an adaptation of a video game, but it is not overly graphic or gory. The movie is rated PG, which means parental guidance is suggested for younger viewers.
