INTRODUCTION.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance 2023 is an American dance comedy-drama film directed by Steven Soderbergh. It was written by Reid Carolin. Magic Mike’s Last Dance is the third installment in the Magic Mike trilogy, following Magic Mike (2012) and Magic Mike XXL (2015).

It stars Channing Tatum as he takes to the stage again, following a business deal that went bust, leaving him broke and taking bartender gigs in Florida. He heads to London with a wealthy socialite who lures him with an offer he can’t refuse.

With Channing Tatum reprising his role as Mike Lane and Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first film in the series, returning to direct Magic Mike’s Last Dance,  Soderbergh said in July 2022 that more editions in the franchise for storylines focusing on individuals other than Mike Lane are in the works.

Gavin Spokes, Caitlin Gerard, Christopher Bencomo, Ayub Khan Din, and Juliette Motamed were announced as co-stars with Tatum and Salma Hayek in November 2022.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, runs for about 1 hour and 56 minutes.

SYNOPSIS.

“Magic” Mike Lane (Channing Tatum) returns to the stage after a long absence due to a failed business venture that left him bankrupt and working as a bartender.

Mike travels to London for what he believes will be one final hurrah with a wealthy lady (Salma Hayek Pinault) who entices him with an offer he can’t refuse and an agenda of her own.

With everything on the line, can Mike—and the roster of gorgeous new dancers he’ll have to whip into shape—pull it off once he realizes what she genuinely has in mind? – magicmikeslastdancemovie .

MAGIC MIKE’S LAST DANCE 2023 FILM REVIEW.

Mike has lost his magic with this film. Magic Mike’s Last dance starts well. The dance that even followed involving Max and Mike was good, sensual, and fun to watch. Though they were trying to build up to the final dance, the remaining scenes could have been more attractive. There was a huge drop-off after the first dance due to unnecessary talking.

I had seen the previous movies in this franchise, and they were good, but I can’t say the same for this.

Mike and Max – the two main character. Unlike the sync in their name, there was no sync or chemistry between the characters, as they seemed void of real emotions. I enjoyed Salma Hayek’s performances in other films, but her acting here film was terrible. I did not believe her character at all. I was not buying her and Channing Tatum’s romance at all. It was almost painful at times.

Everybody else does a good job, but when you have leads that have zero chemistry with each other, it can be a deal breaker. Selma Hayek and some of her lines were poor, making the storyline challenging to understand.

The film and its character fail to capture its predecessor’s raw, seductive energy, leaving me disappointed.

The film would have been much more interesting if there had been significant character development for various performers, even the dancers. The dancers obviously are very talented though they lacked any personality; I didn’t get to know them at all. Unlike the first two films of this franchise, Mike had rapport with his dance partners; this one had nothing.

The Cinematography was okay. The camera movements and positioning were good, especially during the dance scenes, giving us a full view of what was happening.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance also impressed with the choice of outfits and the choice for music used for the dance. For each dance, there’s a song that relates to it, especially ‘Permission’.

From RadioTimes, here’s the soundtrack for the film – Soundtrack.

This film passes several themes/messages.

They include themes of feminism and “abandoning your past to chase a fulfilling future”.

The theme of feminism can be seen with Max getting male strippers to pleasure women by stripping for them. They show that women can also enjoy men’s pleasure from women stripping on them.

The theme of abandoning the past for a better future can be seen when Max leaves her wealthy husband to do what she loves, even though it’s just once. She was willing to make sacrifices to see her dreams become a reality.

DID YOU KNOW?

Thandiwe Newton was initially cast as the female lead and had shot at least a week’s worth of scenes when she dropped out of the film, reportedly due to family reasons. Salma Hayek replaced her and reshot her scenes as reported by IMDB

CONCLUSION.

I watched this film, and in fact, it wasn’t as interesting as I expected it to be. I couldn’t even complete it in one sitting. The plotline is filled with holes. The character development could be better, giving the me a solid reason stick with the film.

The only thing I loved about this film was the dance. At least the producers were impressed with that, especially the Water Duo Dance at the End of the Show.

Now, would I recommend it to anyone? No, I wouldn’t, especially if you watched the previous ones, because Magic Mike’s Last Dance might make you lose interest in the franchise.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance is rated R for sexual material and language.
