Review:
“Find a penny, pick it up and all day long, you’ll have good luck!”
Eva Noblezada stars as Samantha Greenfield, the unluckiest person in the world; a young adult who always seems to be trailing behind an eight-ball, no matter how hard she tries. Despite all odds, Sam proves to be tenacious and courageous.
Samantha has lived most of her formative years in a child-placing agency, and in her last home; Summerland home for girls, she meets a new friend, a little girl, Hazel Murphy, and they bond over the idea of finding a forever family- one that sticks and doesn’t leave. Sam wants to help her friend find that family.
Adelynn Spoon plays Hazel, Sam’s best friend and roommate; an optimistic little girl who believes so much in good Luck that she carries around her good luck charms from her’ lucky crane’, her ‘lucky German pig,’ to her ‘Japanese waving cat’ and her ‘doll horse from Sweden.’ She wishes to get adopted and needs all the Luck she can get.
Simon Pegg plays Bob, a Scottish polydactyl black cat who becomes Sam’s partner for the journey and plays a major role in Samantha’s life after a dinner night. Bob will help Sam blend in with those at the Land of Luck and acts as a supportive friend role although he gives a tough outlook, just like a mushroom, hard outside, he is soft and mushy on the inside.
Bob and Samantha go on a roller-coaster ride of adventures and thrills in the Land of Luck, going from Good-luck, Lucky Deport, the In-Between, all the way to the Land of Bad-luck, which is a mirror image of the Land of Good-luck and where gravity goes in opposite direction… as they have to protect the world against bad Luck.
Along the way, they meet Colin O’Donoghue as Gerry, Bob’s Assistant. Gerry is the cheerful, helpful leprechaun happy to join in their adventurous quest.
I like animations’ ability and capability to bring our fantasies, dreams, and wildest imaginations to life! In Luck, you’ll see magical creatures such as Babe the Dragon, Jeff the Unicorn, leprechauns, gnomes, roots, goats…yes goats, coding rabbits, ladybugs, fat pigs, and some more. You can imagine a bottomless land with beautiful green flowers and trees with colorful insects and high lucky lifts – such a beautiful environment. Anything is possible in the land of Luck.
Eva Noblezada played her role as Samantha perfectly, from differing emotions to aspirations to hope; I felt it real with her acting like an average 18-year-old figuring out a new phase of life as an Adult and living on her own. She exemplifies patience, love, kindness, courage, and a very optimistic approach to life, no matter how unlucky she gets. She’s my favorite character in the movie.
There are great life lessons to learn from this particular movie. We all need Good-Luck and Bad-Luck in life, as they strike a balance. Bad Luck teaches us to pivot when things go haywire. Sometimes just let loose and take a more positive approach to bad situations and problems than let them linger all day long. It’s not really about the bad situation, but how one handles them with an open mind. There is more to learn if you watch the movie.
The movie is not too predictable. I love the plot twist, the accents (especially Bob the Cat), the sense of humor, the picture quality, and the entertainment!
Despite how much I enjoyed this movie, I felt there was little Character development for most of the magical creatures such as the Unicorn, the Chief Captain, the leprechauns, pigs, gnomes, and some others, just a little screen-time here and there with, little definition of roles.
Luck is an entertaining film with a series of adventures, and I would recommend it to animation lovers and children in general. Good-Luck!

Best reviews as always 🤝🏽
The review is a bit of a long read with the imdividual character introductions and star name dropping. However the review does articulate the story really well.
