INTRODUCTION

Creed III 2023 is an American sports drama directed by Michael B. Jordan. Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin did the screenplay. The film is a sequel to Creed II (2018), the third in the Creed series and the ninth in the Rocky film series overall.

Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, and Phylicia Rashad feature as casts.

It is the first film in the franchise without Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as Rocky Balboa. However, he remains a producer, as does the first film’s director, Ryan Coogler.

Zach Baylin was named the scriptwriter in February 2020, with Jordan confirmed to reprise his role as Adonis Creed.

In October 2020, it was announced that, in addition to reprising his role as Adonis Creed, Jordan would direct Creed III, his directorial debut.

Producers were interested in having Jordan serve as director, and Irwin Winkler stated that he had personally offered the role to the actor.

Sylvester Stallone did not feature in Creed III because, in April of 2021, he revealed he wouldn’t play Rocky Balboa. Jonathan Majors had started negotiations to play Adonis’ next nemesis around June 2021. Majors’ appearance in the film was officially announced in November 2021.

Creed III runs for about 1 hour and 56 minutes. English is the primary language spoken.

SYNOPSIS

According to Rottentomatoes, After dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life.

When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring.

The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian, a fighter with nothing to lose.

CREED III (2023) FILM REVIEW

I just finished watching Creed III, and it wasn’t a bad movie. It was entertaining though predictable and shallow. This might be because I expected so much from it after seeing the previous Creed Franchise.

Creed III was shot in places like Georgia, Tampa, and Los Angeles, California, to get the perfect serenity.

Creed isn’t based on a true story, though it draws inspiration from professional boxers like Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali.

Before discussing the film in detail (but without spoilers, as you know), boxing is a funny sport. I am not a massive boxing fan, but if I get the chance to see a fight, I’ll take it.

While watching this film, I realised that in an actual boxing match, we, the audience, cheer while someone’s relative is beaten to a stupor. Isn’t that wonderful?

Moving to what we have all been waiting for, the review.

Character/Acting: Creed III has a great cast, but three main characters stand out. These characters include Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, and Tessa Thompson.

Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Creed. Creed is a retired boxer forced to come out of retirement to deal with the terror from his past.

Jordan delivers an excellent performance, just as he did in Black Panther. Just as he has done in previous Creed films, Jordan brings charm and likeability to Adonis’s character and vulnerability. The relationship between Creed and his daughter is wholesome, and their bond is heart-warming.

Another character who impressed me is Jonathan Majors. He plays the role of Damian “Diamond Dame” Anderson. Jonathan is superb as he continues establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s elite.

He is easily the franchise’s best villain, with plenty of depth to his character and a natural screen presence. I loved his performance as he displayed Mike Tyson’s vibes throughout the movie.

Tessa Thompson stars as Bianca Taylor. There is strong chemistry between her and Jordan. Mila Davis-Kent is adorable, and her scenes with Jordan and Thompson are easily heart-warming.

The screen presence and charisma of both Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors gave the film a significant boost. I enjoyed their performance. Jordan, Rashad, Jonathan, and Thompson support and play off each other perfectly. The chemistry is excellent amongst the cast, and even the “child actors” deliver strong performances.

Cinematography: The storyline is excellent and has a ton of potential that needs to be explored. The acting and sets are tremendous; This is a movie made with great cinematography, use of colours, camera angles, and close and long shots that enable us to see the action correctly, and the sped-up/slowed-down pictures were brilliant.

Though slow-motion shots and visual effects were good, they felt overused.

The songs, soundtracks, and ring intros used to make the film much more fun and enjoyable. They are one of the best elements of the film. This is the link to the soundtrack in case you want to listen again.

Themes: Creed 3 passes a powerful message to its audience. Its themes include facing one’s past, betrayal, and reflection.

The messages passed across by this film were done by Adonis and Damian.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to The Review Geek, Michael B Jordan was contacted by IGN at IGN FanFest and stated that Creed 4 is “definitely” happening. He continued by saying that “I just want to expand the Creed-verse within reason,” he says, “but expect more stuff around Creed.”

CONCLUSION

Creed III is a good film. It was a solid Okay film, and I enjoyed it. Two of the film’s standout moments are the training scene, which is brilliantly done and stays consistent with the previous movie’s training scenes, and the last fight scene. I loved the camera work and the effects there. It felt like the fight was in 3D, which I liked.

The most significant issue with Creed III is that you have a bland story that is more predictable than the ending of “Creed II”, and it fails to create suspense and proper tension or engage the audience when it matters most towards the end.

Creed III is rated PG-13 for intense sports action, violence and some strong language.

You can watch Creed 3 on Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video
