INTRODUCTION

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022 was written, filmed, and produced by Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman.

It is a stand-alone continuation of the 2019 movie Knives Out, and Daniel Craig returns as the legendary investigator Benoit Blanc as he takes on a fresh investigation involving tech tycoon Miles Bron (Edward Norton), and his closest pals. Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista are also included in the ensemble cast.

Prior to the debut of the first movie, Johnson had entertained the notion of making more movies using the Benoit Blanc persona.

Glass Onion runs for a little over 2 hours and English is the only language used.

SYNOPSIS

In a new Rian Johnson mystery, famed Southern investigator Benoit Blanc travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a case. The intrepid investigator is found in this new adventure at a beautiful private house on a Greek island, but how and why he got there is simply the first of many mysteries.

Blanc quickly meets a diverse group of friends ‘disruptors’ who have gathered at the invitation of millionaire Miles Bron for their annual reunion. Miles’ former business partner Andi Brand, current Connecticut governor Claire Debella, cutting-edge scientist Lionel Toussaint, fashion designer and former model Birdie Jay and her conscientious assistant Peg, and influencer Duke Cody and his sidekick girlfriend Whiskey are among those on the guest list.

Each character, as in the finest murder mysteries, has their own secrets, lies, and motivations. When someone is found dead, everyone becomes a suspect.

GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY FILM REVIEW

Glass Onion is a cinematic masterpiece that enthralled me from beginning to end. It’s humorous, exciting, suspenseful, and entertaining. This is a masterpiece, albeit I had to watch it several times to really get it. As the saying goes, ‘the more you watch, the more you see and comprehend.’

When I initially started watching this film, I had various questions, and I believe you will as well, but my advice is to keep watching since everything will be revealed in due time.

Characters/acting: All of the characters in Glass Onion amazed me.

Denoit Blanc, a well-known private investigator, is played by Daniel Craig. His performance in Knives Out was excellent, thus I see why he was cast in this as well. His performance is critical to the film’s success.

Blanc’s expression is fantastic and amusing. The way he attempts to convey that he is either lost in conversation or thoroughly enjoying the conversation. He even utilizes his facial expression to convey sarcasm well.

His accent and body language are also perfect. I thought it amusing how he was occasionally lost in talks and how he used his body to show such.

Dave Bautista, a Twitch and YouTube video game streamer and men’s rights activist, plays Duke. His character is amusing. Keep an eye out for him in this film. He got me in his first act hen he was live on Twitch, he got me in his first act.

Janelle Monáe plays twin sisters Helen and Andi Brand, the latter of whom is Miles’ ex-business partner. So, she is Janelle, the renowned and attractive woman. I’d heard a lot about her but had no idea who she was until this performance, which I don’t believe I’ll ever forget.

Her part did not need her to grin or laugh, yet with a straight expression, she manages to convey a lot of information with her face and body language. I won’t say much about her character as it might include spoilers.

Edward Norton, who plays Miles Bron, a New York millionaire and the owner of numerous significant businesses, is the final character I’ll discuss. In order to get the ‘disruptors’ together and work on his murder investigation, Miles hosts the gathering. He gives a good performance, and I liked his role in the movie since he serves as the focal point for the societal criticism on the rich versus the middle class.

Cinematography: The direction and photography are excellent. I have no issues due to the excellent writing, musical soundtracks, settings, etc. The screenplay and direction of the movie were both masterful by filmmaker Rian Johnson.

Themes: Knives drawn Themes from Glass Onion include the following.

The theme of deception and lies, as the characters all have their own hidden agendas and secrets.

The theme of class and social status, as the characters come from very different backgrounds and have very different attitudes towards money and power.

The theme of murder mystery where the audience is trying to piece together the clues and figure out who the murderer is.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to Wikipedia, Knives Out and its sequel were up for auction in March 2021, and Netflix outbid Apple and Amazon to win the rights for $469 million. Johnson would return as director, Daniel Craig would play Blanc again, and the first episode would have a minimum $40 million budget. More than $100 million was purportedly made by Johnson, Craig, and the producer Ram Bergman for both productions. It was described as a “mind-boggling” agreement by a losing bidder.

Craig practiced speaking with Blanc’s Southern accent under the guidance of a dialect coach. Johnson had proposed giving Blanc a bizarrely different accent for each movie.

The movie Glass Onion is very great. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time because of the drama, suspense, and surprising twists. The tale and mystery are undoubtedly the best features.

Glass Onion was completely surprising and kept me on my toes. And it gains a lot from the story’s nonlinear presentation. If it had been given in chronological sequence, the effect wouldn’t have been nearly as strong.

I recommend this film to any thriller and mystery lover above the age of 16 because it the mild sex scene.

You can watch Emancipation on Netflix.
