This film has a run time of about 2 hours and 30 mins and uses English as its primary language.
SYNOPSIS
In Ruben Östlund’s wickedly funny Palme d’Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean) are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared to be Instagram-worthy ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.

TRIANGLE OF SADNESS FILM REVIEW
Is it just me, or does this film have ‘The Menu‘ vibe?
If you’ve watched the film The Menu, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes, and Nicholas Hoult, you’ll know how excellent and intriguing it is. That’s how Triangle of Sadness is. You’ll want to see it again and again.
The film Triangle of Sadness is divided into three acts.
To begin, the first act is fully focused on the cute couple, both models, and the fundamental foundation of their relationship is to earn Instagram followers for each other. Along with this high give-and-take aspect, there is also a very lopsided power divide that can be sensed in this connection.
The second act begins aboard a luxurious yacht with Yaya and Carl. The boat has a tangible social hierarchy, with the wealthy visitors at the top, the white hospitality staff in the middle, and the non-white employees and laborers at the bottom.
The third act finds Carl, Yaya, Dmitri, and a few others washed up on the coast of a nearby island as the sole survivors of the catastrophe, and they must now live together while waiting for rescue.
Characters/Acting: All charcters play significant and impressive roles in this film. I could go on and on about the performance of each character but i’ll just discuss a handful.
Dolly de Leon in my opinion delivered an outstanding performance. One of the best in this film. One line that resonated with me the entire time I was watching Dolly as Abigail was, ‘In the yacht, I’m a cleaner, here (in the island), I’m Captain.’
I’m sorry if you haven’t seen this film because you won’t comprehend this quote so, I’ll advice you go see it. As the survivors neared the island’s shoreline, Dolly’s job became increasingly vital.
I like Harris Dickinson’s performance as Carl. He was fantastic. His representation of emotions, particularly when he is with Charlbi, who I believe had a lot of chemistry with Harris. I find it amusing how he expresses displeasure and anxiety. I recall him having elevator problems while attempting to address the subject of gender roles. The elevator closing and opening, while he spoke, was hilarious.
Woody Harrelson played the role of the part of Captain. I’ve follwed his movies right from Now You See Me and I’ve alwasy been impressed. I have always liked his role in whatever movie he’s appeared in, and this one is no exception. However, he had a rather reduced screen time for some reason. That was one of the problems I had with this film.
Woody always delivers.
He expressed all proper emotions and appeared to be drunk all the time, which I appreciated. His body movements and message passed was spot-on.
Cinematography: I enjoyed the camera work, visual effects, and other aspects of the film. This director did a fantastic job of evoking feelings and concepts with only visuals and without providing any logical justification. He intelligently addressed certain thought provoking social issues and mildly added humor to it which makes it appealing to the audience.
The cinematographer wowed me. He deserves some praise.
This film is Amazing and mysterious. I got drawn in fully, which is unusual. I was astounded! It’s so much fun to watch this complex tale develop!
Themes: Triangle of Sadness is a “wild” parody of the world of fashion and the ultra-wealthy, with the underlying themes of “appearance as capital” and “beauty as currency,” according to the director Ruben.
DID YOU KNOW?
Triangle of Sadness had its world premiere on May 21, 2022, at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation and won the Palme d’Or. Triangle of Sadness then had its theatrical debuts in France on September 28, the US and Sweden on October 7, Germany on October 13, and the UK on October 28, respectively.
I’ll sum up by expressing how much I like this film and how clever it is. It doesn’t try to be subtle with its social messages, but I believe that’s part of the reason it succeeds. They are so honest that they shouldn’t be taken seriously. I never got the impression that the movie was trying to convert me. It was more a case of making fun of generalizations in a hilarious way.
I recommend this film to any comedy lover above the age of 16. Check it out guys, you’ll love it. As seen in the film poster, Triangle of sadness is “the perfect comedy…”
