LADYBUG & CAT NOIR: AWAKENING FILM REVIEW.
So, before the film commences, Master Wang Fu provides a narration about the Miraculous, a gem. This gem has been concealed for countless years, and he explains that it is bestowed upon the most exceptional heroes. He also said, “Among these heroes, there’s one that stands out—the most dreaded of all—because it empowers the creation of Akumas, which can transform even slightly angry individuals into horrifying monsters!” This narration sets the stage for the story.
It’s a beautiful day in Paris, the sun is shining, yet the day isn’t unfolding smoothly for Marinette, an adolescent battling a challenging school day. Meanwhile, Gabriel Agreste, an affluent individual, is struggling to cope with the absence of his wife Emile who passed away, and is prepared to take any measures to reunite with her. At the same time, his son Adrien is experiencing sadness due to the passing of his mom and his father’s lack of attention and involvement in his life.
Marinette trying to run away from a rich kid who made Marinette her best friend because Marinette spilled her drink. She runs into a library where she meets Adrien who she instantly liked but he didn’t feel the same because he was still mourning his mom.
Out of a sense of desperation, Gabriel Agreste makes the decision to release Hawk Moth, the butterfly miraculous, which is known for producing Akumas. This action triggers the activation of the other two miraculous jewels – the ladybug and the cat noir.
Master Wang Fu, an elderly gentleman in charge of guarding the Miracle box housing the abilities of Ladybug and Cat Noir, recognizes Hawk Moth’s stirring presence. In reaction, he acts to open the Miracle box. However, because the Miraculous have individual consciousness, they choose Marinette and Adrien to wield them. As a result, in the face of this great villainy, Marinette and Adrien are forced to combine their strengths and stand together to resist the impending danger that threatens the globe.
Marinette and Adrien as LadyBug and Cat Noir respectively came across really effectively in the movie. It wasn’t just their facial expressions that conveyed emotions, but also their voices. The way they spoke added depth to their feelings and made their personalities more relatable.
The characters are truly endearing, and their interactions didn’t come across as forced. The way they connect and communicated feels genuine and unforced, something that resonates with me and adds to my enjoyment of the film.
I noticed a distinct shift in Marinette’s singing voice, and it was pretty clear to me. It’s like when someone you know well changes something about them, and you can immediately tell it’s them despite the alteration.
I have a real soft spot for the music and sounds that they’ve incorporated into this movie. It’s like they’ve woven them together to craft this cozy and inviting ambiance that I’m truly drawn to. When watching, I can’t help but feel like I’m being enveloped in this comforting embrace of sound, and it makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. It’s like they’ve unlocked the secret to making you feel right at home within the story they’re telling.
The cinematography in this movie is truly exceptional. The animation is so well-executed that it’s the very element that sets this film apart in my eyes. However, I must admit that the storyline felt a bit disjointed and lacked a smooth flow. It seemed like the pacing was hurried, which took away from my overall experience. Additionally, I couldn’t help but notice quite a few gaps in the plot, which left me with unanswered questions.
CONCLUSION.
Ladybug & Cat Noir: Awakening is an animated superhero drama film with breathtaking visuals. I absolutely loved the movie and some of the songs. Despite its excellent features, it had some problems that I think will be noticed.
Would I recommend this movie? Yes, I would because though my experience wasn’t perfect but I still enjoyed the film. Ladybug & Cat Noir: Awakening 2 will be released in 2026.
Ladybug & Cat Noir: Awakening has a PG rating due to action, some thematic elements, and brief smoking.
