Introduction

Pinocchio (2022) is a live-action musical fantasy film directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film, created by Walt Disney Pictures, is an adaptation of Disney’s 1940 animated picture, based on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 novel The Adventures of Pinocchio.

Synopsis

Pinocchio tells the story of a puppet brought to life by a fairy and his quest to become a real boy.

Pinocchio (2022) Live-Action opens with a Cricket, Jiminy Cricket, telling the story of how he came to live in a village many years ago. He arrived at a toy carver, Mastro Geppetto’s workplace/house. Mastro Geppetto is heartbroken after losing his child and wife in a horrible occurrence. To fill the emptiness left by his kid, he decided to create a wooden puppet.

After creating the puppet, he named it Pinocchio, as one might imagine. Before going to bed, he wished upon a wishing star for the boy to come to life, and the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo) grants him his desire.

Pinocchio’s wish is to become a real boy, and for this to happen, the Fairy instructs him to demonstrate his ability to be genuine, courageous, and selfless; to do so, he must have a conscience. Jiminy Cricket is appointed as Pinocchio’s temporal conscience, guiding him on what is wrong and right.

The adventure of Pinocchio begins the following day when he is sent to school.

This live-action film featured a great casts, but their performances were terrible. The only character who impressed me was Jiminy Cricket, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Jiminy Cricket is a light-hearted, clever, and witty cricketer. His mission is to keep Pinocchio in line so he can grow into a genuine boy.

This film has a few redeeming qualities. For one thing, the rhymes were excellent; I thoroughly appreciated them. Some of the tracks were also rather nice.

Pinocchio’s story emphasizes the value of obedience, unselfishness, truthfulness, bravery, and honesty. One can’t truly live if these qualities are not present in him.

To address the negatives, I believed this movie was intended for youngsters, yet the movie included some adult humor. In my perspective, that was a wrong decision. Some of the original film’s strong songs were not utilized in this live-action version, rather Disney inserted poorly crafted songs.

There was a scene where Pinocchio had to tell a lie to help Jiminy Cricket reach a key; I found that offensive. I was left wondering what message was being passed across by Disney.

‘A conscience is that still small voice that most people refuse to listen to. And that is the entire problem with the world today.’

The makeup artist failed miserably in his attempt to age Tom Hanks. Not only Tom Hanks’ makeup was terrible, but so was that of other performers.

I was pretty dissatisfied with the film. Despite the movie’s prominent celebrities, it was uninteresting, unexciting, and poorly done. The film lacked a soul for a movie about a child attempting to discover his.

I did not enjoy the film and would not recommend it to anyone.
