INTRODUCTION
Guess what I found out! In Find Me Falling, Harry Connick Jr., who plays John, doesn’t have any tattoos in real life. All the tattoos you see on him in the movie are fake.
The movie did such an amazing job making them look real that I was completely fooled at first and didn’t realize they were just for the film!
“Find Me Falling” (2024) is a romantic comedy directed by South African Cypriot director, producer, and writer Stelana Kliris.
The movie stars Agni Scott, Ali Fumiko Whitney, and Clarence Smith and is set in Cyprus, making it the first Netflix movie to be shot there.
It’s not just a romantic comedy; it explores love in all its forms.
“Find Me Falling” is rated 16+ on Netflix and runs for 1 hour and 34 minutes. You can enjoy this movie with your family because it emphasizes family values and love.
SYNOPSIS
Aging rock star John Allman (Harry Connick Jr.) retreats to Cyprus to take a break from his career after his album flopped. He buys an isolated house close to a cliff on an island in Cyprus to keep a low profile in the beautiful city. To his great surprise and bewilderment, the cliffside is not as isolated as he imagined; in fact, it is a well-known place—a suicide hotspot.
He meets and befriends a local police officer and some other locals, including a lovely young singer, Melina (Ali Fumiko Whitney), with whom he bonds almost immediately.
It turns out that our legendary John Allman has some unfinished business in Cyprus when an old flame, Sia (Agni Scott), shows up and reignites some sparks. He had met her years ago when he visited Cyprus, fell in love, and left her behind on his way to fame and fortune.
MY THOUGHTS ON THE MOVIE
“Find Me Falling” is a feel-good movie—neither bad nor great. It’s nothing new but still very refreshing to watch. I wonder how they did that, but I’m guessing it’s the Cyprus effect. The views were amazing, and the costumes were perfect and colorful in every scene.
It’s corny and predictable, but trust me, you’ll fall in love with the supporting characters and the chemistry that exists between them, as well as how the film sticks to the storyline.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
While it’s nice to see a romance between two middle-aged actors, the love story felt a bit weird at first. The characters, John Allman and Sia didn’t have much chemistry, so it was hard to believe they used to be in love. Even as the movie went on, there wasn’t much development with the main characters.
I found it hard to connect with their story, so I didn’t feel sorry for Sia when things went wrong, and I didn’t understand why she was so mad at John when he didn’t know what had happened.
The character development wasn’t great, but the supporting actors, like the sister and mother, did an excellent job with their roles despite having limited screen time.
VISUALS AND CINEMATOGRAPHY
If you’ve read this far, you can tell I love the visuals. “Find Me Falling” was filmed on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
The cinematography is fantastic, showcasing the island’s stunning scenery. The crystal blue water looks amazing on screen, and the rich architecture adds a unique feel to the movie.
The filmmakers did a great job capturing the natural beauty of Cyprus, from its sunny beaches to its historic buildings. They also highlighted the island’s culture through food and music, making you feel like you’re a part of the movie as you experience everything firsthand.
The way the movie uses the island’s backdrop adds to the story, making it more vibrant and engaging.
The visuals of “Find Me Falling” are a big part of what makes it such an enjoyable film for me.
WRITING AND STORY
Director Stelana Kliris did a great job with both directing and writing “Find Me Falling.” While the storyline might be familiar, it was charmingly sweet and well-crafted. The dialogue was engaging, and the film featured catchy original songs that added a special touch.
Even though the plot is something you might be able to predict, the film is so captivating that you won’t be able to look away.
I’m excited to see more of Kliris’s work in the future, as her approach to storytelling and her attention to cultural detail shine through in this film.
THEMES
The major theme in this movie is family. It shows us how important the family unit is and how we need our loved ones.
It illustrates that no matter what we might be dealing with, having your family by your side lightens the load. It also addresses suicide, and I appreciate how it mentions that people who commit suicide sometimes just need someone to listen.
Suicide is not an option and never an answer.
